The 35-year-old helped Australia win the 2015 ODI World Cup at home where he emerged as the highest wicket taker, following it up with a repeat performance four years later.

He holds the record of claiming at least a wicket in his first 23 matches, the longest stretch of matches for bowlers in the mega tournament.

Starc took the fewest balls to reach 50 ODI World Cup wickets, taking only 941 deliveries, ahead of Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga, who needed 1187 balls to reach the landmark.

He reached the 50-wicket landmark, only the fifth bowler in the world to do so, against India in the 2003 World Cup in Chennai, dismissing Ishan Kishan for a duck.

Mitchell Starc's stats in ODI World Cups

Glenn Mcgrath leads the most wickets in ODI World Cups list with 71 wickets in 39 matches. Muralitharan is second with 68 wickets in 40 matches. Starc follows closely at the third spot with 65 wickets in 28 games, ahead of Pakistan's Wasim Akram (55 wickets in 38 matches).

Starc holds the record for most wickets in a single edition of the tournament, taking 27 scalps in 10 matches in the 2019 edition of the tournament.

Four years earlier at the home edition of the tournament, he took 22 wickets to help Australia win the competition for the fifth time.

In white-ball World Cups (ODI + T20I) he has been the most prolific wicket-taker with 95 dismissals.

In recent times, he has hinted at retiring from the 50-over format to preserve his body and prolong his Test career.

"Moving forward, I am certainly closer to the end of my career than the start. One format may drop off. There is a long time before the next one-day World Cup, and whether that format continues for me or not – it may open doors for more franchise cricket," he has said, as quoted by cricket.com.au.
