Mushfiqur Rahim: Bangladesh veteran joins Ponting, Root in elite list with century in 100th Test
Mushfiqur Rahim entered the record books by becoming the first-ever Bangladesh cricketer to play 100 Tests and the 11th batter to score a century in his 100th Test.
New Delhi: Going to bed on an unbeaten 99, Mushfiqur Rahim's 16-hour wait to score the elusive run must have felt like a lifetime. For a man who came into bat on Thursday morning on the verge of scripting history in his landmark Test, Mushfiqur was cool as a cucumber.
The wicket-keeper batter, who made his debut almost two decades ago, showed no signs of nervousness and calmly played out a maiden at the start of Day 2 in the first Test against Ireland. Been there, done that multiple times, he was laser-focused and relaxed at the crease.
The iconic cricketer didn't take long and completed his hundred in the next over with a single as fans at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium hailed their most loyal servant, who entered the record books by becoming the first-ever Bangladesh cricketer to play 100 Tests and the 11th batter to score a century in his 100th Test.
Courtesy of the landmark ton, Rahim joined the likes of Joe Root, David Warner, Graeme Smith, Ricky Ponting, Javed Miandad, Gordon Greenidge and Hashim Amla, among others, in a special list of players to score a century in the 100th Test. Root and Warner made the grand occasion even grander by scoring a double century in their 100th Test, respectively.

This was Mushfiqur's 13th Test century, which is the joint-most by a Bangladeshi batter. The seasoned batter equalled left-handed Mominul Haque's mark of 13 Test centuries.
Mushfiqur was not the only one to score a century in the ongoing Test. Stumper Litton Das also notched up his fourth ton as Bangladesh notched up 476 to take a big step towards a series win.
