No handshake in India-Pakistan Asia Cup Rising Stars clash

New Delhi: India A and Pakistan Shaheens avoided avoided handshakes before the start of their Asia Cup Rising Stars match in Doha on Sunday, after a controversy in Asia Cup over senior national cricket teams refusal to do so in September.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl as India skipper Jitesh Sharma and his Pakistani counterpart Irfan Khan went their separate ways after the national anthems.

In the Asia Cup two months ago, Indian players decided not to shake hands with Pakistan players as a mark of solidarity for victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.

India and Pakistan met three times in Asia Cup with India's T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav not shaking hands with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha even once.

It started a row between the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Pakistan Cricket Board as India won all those three matches.

Tensions escalated when PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi refused to hand over the Asia Cup winner's trophy to India after they beat Pakistan in the final in Dubai.

The Indian team declined to accept the trophy from a Pakistan representative. India are yet to receive the Asia Cup Trophy from the Asian Cricket Council.

Reports suggest the BCCI could take the matter up with the International Cricket Council should no resolution is reached over handover of the trophy.
