New Delhi: Mohit Sharma has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Wednesday, 3 December. The fast bowler last played for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League 2025 season. Mohit has played 26 ODI matches and 8 T20I games for India between 2013 and 2015. He was considered one of the best death-overs specialists in T20 cricket in the prime phase of his competitive career.

The pacer was released by the DC ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 mini-auction, which is scheduled for 15 December in Abu Dhabi. The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler played eight matches and picked up just two wickets, conceding at an expensive economy rate of 10.28.

"Today, with a full heart, I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket. From representing Haryana to wearing the India jersey and playing in the IPL, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing," Mohit said in an Instagram post.

Mohit missed the 2022 edition of the IPL and was bought by the Gujarat Titans in 2023. He picked 27 wickets in that season, finishing just one short of the Purple Cap. He continued his brilliant form, taking 13 wickets in 12 matches for GT in 2024 before being bought by DC for the 2025 season. He last played first-class cricket in 2018, and his final list-A game was in 2022.

Mohit Sharma's career

Mohit made his first-class debut for Haryana in 2011, but his career changed in the 2012–13 domestic season. Under the guidance of fast-bowling coach Ian Pont, Mohit took 37 wickets in just seven (or eight) games at an average of around 23, making him one of the highest wicket-takers that season.

His brilliant Ranji Trophy performance earned him a lot of praise. He was bought by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the 2013 season of the IPL. The fast bowler made his international debut for India on 1 August 2013 during the ODI series against Zimbabwe. Apart from CSK, he has also represented Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans.

He was also part of India’s squad for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he finished the tournament as the team’s third-highest wicket-taker, picking up 13 wickets in eight matches. In 2014, he also won the Purple Cap for CSK, taking 23 wickets, a remarkable milestone for an uncapped player at the time.
