New Delhi: Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal scripted history on Monday by becoming the first batter to score 700+runs twice in a Vijay Hazare Trophy season.

The left-handed batter, who has been unstoppable in the ongoing VHT season, continued his red-hot form against Mumbai in his team's quarterfinal match at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1, Bengaluru and smashed a superb half-century.

With four centuries and two fifties, there has been no stopping Padikkal in the VHT 2025-26 campaign. The classy batter, who was the highest run-scorer in the 2021-22 VHT season with 737 runs, became the first player to breach the 700-run mark this season courtesy of his superb knock against Mumbai.

Last week, Padikkal achieved the milestone of scoring 600+ runs in three different VHT seasons and continued his rich vein of form in a high-stakes clash against the domestic giants.

Padikkal completed his fifty in just 62 balls, including 7 fours in his team's run chase of 258. India Test hopeful Karun Nair also scored a measured half-century to put Karnataka on course for a win and a place in the semifinal.

Courtesy of his remarkable performances in VHT 2025-26, Padikkal has achieved the highest batting average (83.03) in List A cricket in the world (minimum 2500 runs).

Despite his prolific form in domestic cricket, Padikkal was not selected in India's ODI squad for the ongoing home series against New Zealand. The snub hasn't gone unnoticed, with fans slamming the selectors for ignoring one of the most consistent performers in the country.
