The Pakistan Super League will undergo major structural reforms in the upcoming edition, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Monday. One of the major changes in the league will be the introduction of a player auction system, replacing the draft system that has been in effect since the tournament's inception in 2016.

Ahead of the 2026 edition, the total purse for the franchise has also been increased to USD 1.6 million, up from USD 1.3 million for the players' auction. before the league's 11th edition

PSL CEO Salman Naseer, while announcing the reforms, said that the changes would reinforce the league's growth, competitiveness, and commitment to innovation.

"The PSL will now transition from a draft to players auction system which should increase transparency and enhance the competitive balance of teams in the league," Naseer said.

He also stated that the reforms will provide players with greater financial security.

According to the new reforms, which have been announced ahead of the league's 11th edition, each franchise can retain a maximum of four players, with a limit of one player per category.

Revamped PSL an effort to attract more eyeballs

Earlier, every franchise was eligible to retain eight players from their squad, including a mentor, a brand ambassador and a Right to Match (RTM) option to maintain a ninth player in the player draft.

Under the reforms, the hiring of a mentor, a brand ambassador and the Right to Match option have been abolished.

Naseer further revealed that the new franchises, Hyderabad and Sialkot, will be allowed to pick four players from the available player pool before the player auction.

In the player auction, each franchise can also directly sign one foreign player who did not play in the previous edition (PSL 10). The move will enable the teams to strategically reinforce their squads with fresh international talent.

The 11th edition of the PSL is scheduled to start on March 26. Faisalabad has been added to the list of venues, which include Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Multan.
