New Delhi: Pat Cummins's spectacular show during his comeback match in the third Ashes Test against England has solidified his position on the latest Test ranking charts released on Wednesday. Cummins, who missed the opening two Ashes Test matches due to injury and is set to miss the last two Test matches as well due to the same reason, made his only appearance in the recently-concluded third game in Brisbane.
Notably, Australia retained the Ashes by winning the third Test match and took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series. Meanwhile, the Aussie bowling star impressed in his only outing in the series claiming a total of 6 wickets in the game to jump four spots in the latest charts and occupy the second position among bowlers.
Earlier, the second spot was occupied by fellow Australia Mitchell Starc but Cummins by claiming 3 wickets each in the first and second innings of the match, dethroned his fellow national and now has 849 rating points to his name. By virtue of his superlative jump in the charts, Cummins has now closed in on Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah's number one ranking in Tests.
Bumrah is currently at the number one position in the Test bowling rankings with 879 rating points and Cummins' escalation has posed a threat to Bumrah's number one spot in the longest format with just a difference of 30 rating points.
Meanwhile in the batting charts, lethal batter Travis Head climbed four places to become joint third on the list with 815 rating points alongside teammate Steve Smith. Head came up with an impactful performance in the second innings of the third Ashes Test, smashing a knock of 170 runs. On the other hand, Alex Carey’s century in the third Ashes Test propelled him six places into the top ten, as he rose to ninth with a career-best rating of 737.
In the T20I bowling rankings, Bumrah made a 10-place jump to reach joint 18th position alongside Sri Lanka's Maheesh Theekshana on 622 points. Tilak Varma continued his rapid rise in the T20I batting rankings, climbing one spot to occupy third position.
