The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lifted the provisional suspension on batter Haider Ali among nine other cricketers.
New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lifted the provisional suspension on batter Haider Ali who had been accused of rape charges. Pakistan player Haider has not played any competitive cricket since he was cleared of the rape allegations in Manchester back in September.
Even after being cleared of the charges, he was not involved in any cricketing activity since last 3 to 4 months and that's when the PCB decided to revoke the suspension and allow him to resume his normal cricketing activities.
On Wednesday, December 10, it was confirmed by the Pakistan cricket board that Haider was among nine Pakistani players who were issued NOCs to go and participate in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The T20 competitive will begin on December 26 in Sylhet with the last match being played on January 23, 2026.
A source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the developments to news agency PTI on December 10, saying that the players have been granted the permission to play the event in Bangladesh till January 23.
What happened with Haider?
Haider Ali, who played 35 T20Is and 3 ODIs for Pakistan, was touring England with the Pakistan Shaheens squad when a UK-born Pakistani woman filed rape allegations against him with the Manchester city police. The PCB them came into action and suspended the player pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
However, Manchester police closed the case on September 25, stating they had not found sufficient evidence to send the matter to court or arrest the cricketer. Along with this, the PCB also issued NOCs to Muhammad Nawaz, Abrar Ahmed, Sahabzada Farhan, Faheem Ashraf, Hussain Talat, Khawaja Nafay and Ehsanaullah for the BPL.
Meanwhile, Pakistan batter Umar Akmal was denied an NOC which has prompted him to appeal to the board to explain the reason behind the decision.
'I don't know the reason but I have missed out on some very good contracts because the board is just not clearing my applications to issue NOC to me,' he said.
