Punjab police tightens security in Mullanpur ahead of India vs South Africa 2nd T20I

New Delhi: Ahead of the second T20I match between India and South Africa on Thursday in Mullanpur, Punjab police has tightened the security arrangements. India are 1-0 up in the five-match series after emerging victorious in the series opener in Cuttack on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, for the match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, adequate police arrangements have been kept in place along with a traffic advisory also to ensure the smooth happening of the second game of the series.

DGP confirms tight arrangement

Meanwhile, Special Director General of Police (Law and Order), Arpit Shukla, in an interaction with the media told that they have been informed that a large number of people would assemble in the stadium for the second game which is of utmost importance for the visiting side. The stadium in Mullanpur has a capacity of around 35000 people and adequate security and traffic management arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.

Speaking a bit about the numbers, it was revealed that about 3000 police personnel will be deployed for security and crowd management on the match day which would be up and above what already has been deployed.

It is also being learnt as per media sources that senior police officials would also be monitoring the stadium for which traffic diversions and routes have been suggested to spectators so as to avoid chaos. In addition, it has also been appealed to the public to follow the traffic diversions and cooperate with the police officials so that everything happens smoothly.

While India would be looking to double their lead and make it 2-0, South Africa would be aiming to draw parity in the series.
