PM Modi likely to meet World Cup-winning women's team in New Delhi

The World Cup champion Indian women's cricket team is likely to visit the national capital on Wednesday for a meeting with PM Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet the World Cup-winning Indian women’s cricket team in New Delhi on Wednesday, November 5, according to a report in India Today. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side, which won its maiden world title on Sunday, will visit the national capital on Wednesday for the meeting with PM Modi.

India edged past South Africa in the final of the Women's ODI World Cup 2025 on November 2, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, winning the thrilling summit clash by 52 runs. Soon after the landmark win, PM Modi shared a congratulatory post on X (formerly Twitter) to express his joy and hailed the win as a landmark moment for women's sports in India.

"A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports," he added.

BCCI announces record prize money, MP govt to give cash reward to Kranti Goud

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a whopping Rs 51 crore prize money for the victorious Women in Blue.

Hours later, the Madhya Pradesh government announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for Kranti Goud, the young fast bowler hailing from Ghuwara in Chhatarpur, Bundelkhand, for her superb performance in the tournament.

"I want to congratulate everyone for the way the daughter of our state and the daughters of the country performed brilliantly in cricket last night," Chief Minister Mohan Yadav told reporters in Bhopal," he said.

"Madhya Pradesh's daughter Kranti Gaud was also part of the women's World Cup-winning team. I want to congratulate Kranti and give her an incentive of Rs 1 crore from the state government. I announce to give Rs one crore to Kranti, the daughter of Chattarpur," the CM added.

Goud played a key role in leading the Indian women's cricket team to the World Cup final and finished the tournament with nine wickets in eight matches.
