New Delhi: In what could become one of the most talked about trades in IPL history, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings are reportedly in advanced discussions over a blockbuster swap involving Sanju Samson, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. According to reports, both franchises have already spoken to the players involved, though neither has publicly confirmed the development.
The Royals have initiated the move after their long-time skipper Samson expressed his desire for a change following IPL 2025. The process is still in its early stages with both teams expected to send an expression of interest to the IPL governing council naming the three players. Once written consent from the players is received, the trade can progress to formal discussions and approval by the council.
Sanju Samson’s time with Rajasthan has been one of loyalty and leadership. He has played 11 seasons with the franchise and was appointed captain in 2021. He even led the side to the final a year later under the guidance of Kumar Sangakkara. Over the years, wicketkeeper-batter has become RR’s leading run-scorer with 4,027 runs and has been their most reliable batter.
For CSK, the potential trade would mark the end of an era if Ravindra Jadeja have to leave. The all-rounder has been an integral part of the franchise's success since 2012, contributing to three of their five title wins. Chennai even retained him for ₹18 crore ahead of the 2025 season, and he has been a key player.
On the other hand, Sam Curran has had a more turbulent IPL journey. After becoming the league's most expensive player in 2023 with Punjab Kings, he returned to CSK this year but struggled to find consistency, managing only one wicket in five games.
If the deal goes through, then it would mark one of the biggest player swaps in IPL history. The move will alter the balance of both franchises. Samson’s attacking leadership could rejuvenate CSK’s middle order while Jadeja’s experience and Curran’s versatility would give Rajasthan a stronger all-round core.
