Team India star Rishabh Pant on Monday provided an update on his foot injury after getting ruled out of the final 5th Test against England. Pant has been sidelined from the must-win 5th Test at the Kennington Oval in London after suffering a toe fracture. The left-hander got injured while batting during India's first innings on Day 1 of the Test match.
The wicket-keeper batter took to social media on Monday to share pictures of his injured foot and revealed he will begin his rehabilitation process after his fracture heals. Pant is likely to remain out of action for the next six weeks as he continues to recover from his injury.
"Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It's been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following the routines, and giving it my 100%. Playing for my country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can't wait to be back doing what I love," Pant wrote in a post on X.
Pant was hit on his foot while trying to play a reverse sweep against England pacer Chris Woakes on Day 1 of the Manchester Test. The ball hit Pant's toes and left in immense pain, prompting the Indian team's medical staff to rush onto the field. Pant's foot got swollen immediately, and he had to be carried out on a golf cart after struggling to walk. It was later confirmed that the batter had sustained a fracture.
However, despite his injury, Pant came out to bat for India during Day 2 and went on to complete a gritty half-century to help the visitors post 358 runs in their first innings. The left-hander was ready to bat again for India during their second innings on Day 5, if required. However, his services were not required as RavinJadeja and Washington Sundar shared an unbeaten 203-run stand for the 5th wicket to help India secure a well-fought draw.
India have already announced Dhruv Jurel as a replacement for Pant for the fifth and final Test against England, which is set to get underway at the Kennington Oval in London from Thursday, July 31. Jurel kept wickets for India during England's both innings in the absence of Pant in the 4th Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. The young wicket-keeper batter will now officially make his first appearance in the series in the 5th Test.
