New Delhi: After the ICC rankings were out on Wednesday, the cricketing fraternity and fans were shocked to learn that the names of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were missing from the ODI list. Both Rohit and Kohli have retired from the Test and T20I but are still active in the fifty-over game.
Amid the names of both the cricketing superstars missing from the list, speculations started doing the rounds that the duo might be on their way to call it quits from the ODI format as well and they must have communicated the same to the board. However, few hours later, the global governing body clarified that it was a technical glitch which led to the omission of the Indian cricketers' names.
Because of the technical problem, their names were missing and later, they got added. In the batters list in ODIs, Rohit is currently placed on the number two spot while Kohli is ranked on number four. Meanwhile, the reason behind the technical issues in the rankings is being analysed.
South Africa's Kehsav Maharaj has reclaimed the top spot in the current rankings while India's spinner Kuldeep Yadav has slipped to the third position in the latest list. Maharaj regained the position after powering South Africa to a mammoth victory over Australia in first ODI in Cairns. He registered terrific figures of 5 for 33, thereby overtaking Kuldeep and Sri Lanka's Maheesh Theekshana to the top spot.
Apart from Kuldeep, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is the only other Indian bowler to feature in the top 10 of the bowling list. Notably, Team India has not played a single ODI match since their triumphant win at the Champions Trophy 2025. Their next assignment is the marquee Asia Cup beginning in the UAE on September 9 which will be followed by a home Test series against the West Indies.
