New Delhi: Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma has confirmed that he will play the ODI World Cup in 2027, dismissing rumours about his retirement from the format. After he was replaced by Shubman Gill as skipper of the ODI team, rumours were rife that he might call it quits from the 50-over format before the World Cup which is almost two years away.
But while speaking to a Make-A-Wish child in a viral video, Rohit promised to the kids that he will be a participant in the 2027 ODI World Cup and not only play but win it. He further said that he is determined to help India lift the ODI WC trophy evaded him so far. The young fan asked Rohit whether he would be in action at the showpiece event two years later, the right-handed batter firmly replied with a yes.
Further asked about whether it is his wish to win the coveted trophy, the Mumbai player had the same answer making the young kids feel ecstatic.
The 38-year-old retired from the T20I format last year after emerging triumphant in the World Cup, along with his teammate Virat Kohli and also called it quits from the Test format earlier this year. Now only active in the ODI format, Rohit would be looking to make the most of the opportunity in the three upcoming matches against the Aussies.
Rohit came close to winning the ODI World Cup 2023 powering India to the finale but unfortunately suffered a heartbreaking loss against Australia in the summit clash. Rohit would be next seen in action on Sunday in the first ODI match against the Aussies in Perth. The entire Team Indian contingent has been practicing hard in Australia for the white-ball series since last two days.
