New Delhi: Romario Shepherd is set to make return as West Indies announced the squad for the forthcoming ODI series against Pakistan. Shephard, who missed the tour of England due to the rescheduled IPL playoffs earlier in the year, will be again seen in action in what comes as a major boost for the Windies side.

On the other hand, Alzarri Joseph, who featured in the Test series against Australian recently, has been rested from the tour comprising three ODIs as part of workload management. The 15-member squad which was announced on Wednesday remains to be largely unchanged from the side that toured England in May-June this year.

Shephard replacing Joseph in the squad is the only change and among the players who have retained their places are the 23-year-old Jediah Blades, who made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in the last year while 18-year-old wicket-keeper and batter Jewel Andrew who debuted in the recently-concluded T20Is against Pakistan last week.

On the other hand, Shimron Hetmyer, who was in the squad for the England tour earlier this year while playing a pivotal role in the Major League Cricket (MLC) thereafter, has been axed from the squad. The series is scheduled to take place on August 8, 10 and 12 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and is part of West Indies' bid to get automatic qualification for the next ODI World Cup in 2027.

Commenting on the occasion, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy said that the Pakistan series is a unique test and challenge for them where they will push for the automatic qualification for the next 50-over World Cup. He further said that while qualifying is the main goal, they would like to inculcate a winning mentality for the future tournaments.
