With his brilliant 103-run knock in the recently concluded 4th Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester, Gill became the first player in history to score 4 centuries in his debut Test series as captain. The Indian skipper also equalled the legendary Don Bradman's record for most centuries in a Test series as captain - 4.
Gill has enjoyed a stellar run in the ongoing Test series against England with 722 runs at an excellent average of 90.25, including four centuries. He has already broken the record for most runs by an Indian in a Test series against England and is closing in on legendary Sunil Gavaskar's elite record for most runs in a Test series by an Indian batter.
Gill is on the cusp of history ahead of the 5th and final Test match against England at the Kennington Oval in London. The Indian skipper needs only 53 runs to break Gavaskar's record for most runs in a Test series by an Indian. Gavaskar scored 774 runs in a Test series against West Indies in 1970-71, which remains the highest tally by an Indian in a Test series.
Gill has so far amassed 722 runs in the ongoing series against England and needs only 53 runs to go past Gavaskar. Gill is only the third Indian batter after Gavaskar and Yashasvi Jaiswal to have amassed over 700 runs in a Test series, and is currently thid on the list of Indian batters with the most runs in a single Test series.

With his batting heroics in the ongoing Test series against England, Gill also shattered the record for the most runs by an Asian batter in a Test series in England. He went past former Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousuf, who notched up 636 runs in a Test series in England in 2006. Gill broke his long-standing record in the Manchester Test, before crossing the 700-run mark.
