New Delhi: South Africa hammered Pakistan by 8 wickets in the second Test match in Rawalpindi to level the 2-match series 1-1. The visitors had bowled out Pakistan for a paltry score of 138 runs in the second innings and then chased down the target of 68 runs for the loss of just two wickets with ease in 12.3 overs.
It was a record win for South Africa as they beat Pakistan in Test match in their den for the first time since 2007. Meanwhile for the Proteas, Simon Harmer shined with six wickets in the second innings whole two other wickets were taken by Keshav Maharaj, who had claimed a seven-wicket haul in the first innings. Senior batter Babar Azam scored 50 runs while T20I skipper Salman Agha contributed with 28 runs in Pakistan's 2nd innings.
Meanwhile for the Proteas, Skipper Aiden Markram scored 42 runs in the chase while opener Ryan Rickelton played an unbeaten knock of 25 runs to help the side cross the finish line. Noman Ali emerged as the only wicket-taker from the Pakistani side with two scalps.
Earlier in the first innings, there was a valuable contribution with the bat from skipper Masood, Saud Shakeel as both the players scored valiant half-centuries while Agha contributed with 45 runs. For the Proteas, Senuran Muthusamy had scored 89 runs while Tristan Stubbs came up with a knock of 76 runs to help the visiting side get a first innings lead.
Meanwhile, he big victory over the Pakistan side in the second Test match helped the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) winners rise from the number 7 to the number 5 position in the WTC 2025-27 points table, but Pakistan have dropped from the number 2 to the number 4 position. Both Pakistan and South Africa have 12 points each to their credit.
