New Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav's bad patch continued as the Indian skipper was dismissed for just 5 runs off 7 balls in the fifth and final T20I match against South Africa in Ahmedabad on Friday. With the New Zealand T20I series next month and the T20 World Cup 2026 few months away, this comes up as a terrible news for Team India.

In the entire 2025 calendar year, Suryakumar has had the lowest batting average among India's regular T20I batters. In the last six innings against the Proteas in the shortest format, the Indian captain has scored 4, 1, 12, 5, 12 and 5 (today) runs respectively which reflects on the batting failure the T20 specialist has endured this year.

Since November 2024, the right-handed batter has scored only 239 runs in 21 T20I innings at an average of 13.35 and a strike rate of 120.10, which showcases a dramatic decline from the his peak years. Meanwhile after India were put into bat first, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson gave the side a good start before the former lost his wicket for 34 runs.

Samson, who made his comeback after vice-captain Shubman Gill was ruled out of the contest, made the most of the opportunity scoring 37 runs off 22 balls. After the Kerala batter departed, his wicket paved way for the skipper's entry which did not prove fruitful against as he disappointed the fans with his shot selection on a day which could have been the best platform for him to return to form ahead of the marquee World Cup.

Meanwhile, Tilak Varma and all-rounder Hardik Pandya smashed 73 and 63 runs respectively as India posted a mammoth 231 runs in the stipulated 20 overs at the Narendra Modi stadium. Hardik scored a 16-ball half-ton while Tilak maintained his continuity with a 73-run knock of 42 balls.
