New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday announced a list of the match officials and umpires for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. The showpiece T20 spectacle will start on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka and will witness 20 teams participating to win the coveted trophy.
Meanwhile, the ICC on its official website announced that a total of 24 officials will serve as on-field umpires while six will be serving as the match referees during the group stage of the ICC men's T20 World Cup. Officials for the Super Eight and knockout stages will be announced in due course of time.
Sri Lanka's Kumar Dharmasena and Wayne Knights will stand as the on-field umpires for the opening match between Pakistan and the Netherlands at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo. The game will mark Knights’ first appearance at a T20 World Cup, while Dharmasena continues to build on his extensive tournament experience.
Dharmasena has a lot of experience as he has officiated in 37 matches at the showpiece event till now, including the finals in 2016 and 2022. Knights will complete a significant milestone during the Group A clash, officiating his 50th T20 International as an on-field umpire.
For defending champion India's opening match against the USA later on 7 February in Mumbai, Paul Reiffel and Rod Tucker have been appointed as the on-field umpires.
