New Delhi: In a major boost for India, all-rounder Washington Sundar is expected to join the team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. The showpiece spectacle, which has been in news recently, starts on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.
As per a report in the Indian Express, Sundar, who started practicing batting a few days ago at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, will start bowling in the next couple of days which comes as good news for Team India. The 26-year-old player's recovery is happening on the expected lines and it seems that he will soon join the Indian national team, the report further mentions.
Although, the star Indian all-rounder has a slight fracture in his rib area but as per reports, it is not a big deal and the healing is taking place on expected lines. Sundar's inclusion in Team India for the marquee event will be a big boost as the all-rounder would play in the tournament in the middle stages, if not from the beginning.
In addition, another injury concern for Team India, lethal batter Tilak Varma, who is also under rehabilitation is also recovering fast and is expected to join the side in Mumbai ahead of the T20 World Cup warm-up games.
India begin their campaign on February 7 against the United States of America while play their next Group A match against Namibia on February 12 before travelling to Colombo for the high-octane clash against traditional rivals Pakistan on February 15.
The T20 World Cup was in news recently over the doubtful participation of Bangladesh after their citied security concerns in Indian keeping in view the current diplomatic issues between the two nations. Bangladesh finally got replaced by Scotland in the showpiece event and as soon as this happened, Pakistan started off with their drama of not playing the event in solidarity with Bangladesh's exclusion.
