New Delhi: Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued his brilliant run in cricket on Tuesday by becoming the youngest batter to smash a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) tournament. Suryavanshi, who has been on a roll in the shortest format of the game, slammed unbeaten 108 runs off 67 balls studded with 7 sixes and as many boundaries for Bihar in their Group B encounter against Maharashtra.
By virtue of the ton, the 14-year-old batter also became the first teenager in the world to smash three T20 centuries. Rajasthan Royals batter Suryavanshi, who has been been scripting records after records, stood out with his performance but his flamboyant ton went in vain as Maharashtra edged past Bihar by 3 wickets in the game at the Eden Gardens.
Interestingly, all the three T20 centuries by the young player so far in 16 innings have come for different teams, which not many players have been able to achieve. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings player Ayush Mhatre, who also smashed a century in SMAT recently and France's Gustav Mackeon are second in the elusive list with two T20 centuries before turning 20.
Earlier this year, Vaibhav Suryavanshi stole the headlines when he became the youngest-ever player to hit a century in men’s T20 cricket after smashing 101 off 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025.
His sensational ton helped Bihar post a competitive total of 176 runs on the board in the stipulated 20 overs. While he played the role of a lone warrior for his side, Prithvi Shah, Niraj Joshi and Ranjeet Nikam joined hands for the Maharashtra side to clinch the match in the second-last over with three wickets to spare.
Skipper Shaw entertained the crowd with a 60-run knock of just 30 balls, the other two players contributed with 30 and 27 runs respectively to register a win.
