UP Warriorz replace injured Litchfield with Amy Jones for remainder of WPL season

New Delhi: UP Warriorz roped in England wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones as a replacement for injured Phoebe Litchfield for the remainder of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026.

UPW suffered a massive blow after Litchfield, the team's leading run-getter, was ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Her injury is a big blow to Warriorz's playoff hopes, who will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a crunch match on Thursday.

England keeper-batter Jones, who has featured in 125 T20Is and has 1,666 runs, will link up with the Warriorz for Rs 50 lakh, the WPL announced in a release.

UPW are hanging on to the playoff race with just two wins and four points from six matches, and a poor net run rate of -0.769. The Meg Lanning-led team needs big wins to climb the standings.

The Warriorz, though, have the advantage of two games in hand against RCB and Delhi Capitals and can reach eight points, but their fate also depends on other results.

Rodrigues fined for slow over rate 

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals skipper Jemimah Rodrigues was fined for a slow over-rate in her team's heartbreaking loss against Gujarat Giants at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara, on January 27. As this was Jemimah's first over-rate offence, she faces a fine of Rs 12 Lakh.

The Capitals lost some ground in the playoff race after losing a nail-biter to the Giants in the last over by three runs. The loss came after two successive victories last week.

New Zealand icon Sophie Devine was the star of the show for the Giants, conceding six runs in the final over to help her team do the double over the Capitals. Tasked with defending a total of just eight runs in the final over of DC's chase of 175, Devine bowled a superb last over after conceding 23 in her previous.
