New Delhi: India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in a lop-sided Asia Cup 2025 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Pakistan were no match for a much superior Indian side, which showed its might for a second successive match in the continental tournament.
India opened their campaign with a dominant 9-wicket win against the UAE, while Pakistan beat Oman by 93 runs in their opening clash. Both teams came into the match on the back of convincing wins, but only one team showed up for the contest on Sunday.
India dominated the game right from the get-go, starting the game in style with a wicket on the very first ball of the match.
Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Saim Ayub and Mohammad Haris in the first two overs to set the tone, and from there on, Pakistani batters were always playing catch-up. Such was the dominance of Indian bowlers that if not for Sahibzada Farhan's laborious 40 and Shaheen Shah Afridi's blazing 33 not out, Pakistan would have struggled to cross the 100-run mark.
The frenzied start by Bumrah and Pandya, and the middle over squeeze by Indian spinners, never really let Pakistani batters play with freedom. The 128-run target was never going to be enough to stop the Indian batting juggernaut. Courtesy of a fiery 13-ball 31 by Abhishek Sharma and an unbeaten 47-run knock by skipper Suryakumar Yadav, India chased down the target in just 15.5 overs.
Following the one-sided match, the public from both nations appeared on the streets with contrasting emotions.
While Indian fans were elated with their team's performance and the result, Pakistan fans were dejected by their team's abject performance.
Pakistan's next Asia Cup assignment is against the UAE on Wednesday, September 17, while India play Oman on Friday in their final group game. India and Pakistan are likely to face each other again on September 21, in a Super 4 match.
The comprehensive win put India on top of the Group A table with two wins in as many matches. Pakistan, meanwhile, sit second after one win and one loss.
