New Delhi: Kranti Gaud grabbed one of the stunning catches in the history of the Women's ODI World Cup to dismiss in-form South Africa's opener Tazmin Brits at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on Thursday, October 9.
Gaud opened the bowling attack for the Indian team, and in her second over, she bowled a length ball outside off to Brits, and the Proteas opener jogged down the pitch to play a straight drive. But Gaud's brilliant reflexes helped her to grab a stunner on her bowling follow-through. The ball went directly to Gaud's left hand, and she held onto it to give India its first breakthrough.
It was the first-ever duck for Brits in ODIs, as she has played 42 games so far in her career but has never been dismissed on a duck. She was also coming with a red-hot form, as the opener smashed a match-winning ton in the last game against New Zealand to register the Proteas' first victory in the ongoing ODI World Cup.

South Africa won the toss and invited India to bat first. The Proteas' bowlers proved their skipper's decision right by sending six Indian batters on just 102 runs. But Richa Ghosh had other plans and began her innings with an aggressive approach.
Richa played one of the best innings for India in ODIs, as she scored 94 runs off just 77 deliveries after coming out to bat in a crunch situation. She smashed 11 boundaries and four sixes to help her side pass the 250-run mark.
At one point in time, it was an impossible task to cross the 150-run mark, but with Richa's superb effort, the Indian team scored 98 runs in the last 9.5 overs to bounce back in the game and gave a respectable total to their bowlers to defend.
