New Delhi: Australia have drafted in leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha in their T20I squad as Adam Zampa will miss the start of their five-match T20I series against India due to personal reasons.
The first match will be held in Canberra on Wednesday as per a report in ESPNCricinfo, Zampa has sought leave as he is expecting his second child with wife Harriet.
Zampa was not in Australia's team for the first ODI against India in Perth but played in the next two matches as the home side won the series 2-1.
Sangha has claimed 10 wickets in seven T20Is for Australia so far but hasn't featured in an international match since 2023.
The 23-year-old took four for 31 on his T20I debut against South Africa and since has been a regular player for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL).
He was also part of the Australia A squad that toured India earlier this year, pick up seven wickets in the three one-dayers and is the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing One-Day Cup, with 10 wickets from four matches for New South Wales.
Australia's five T20Is will be held in Canberra (Oct 29), Melbourne (Oct 31), Hobart (Nov 2), Gold Coast (Nov 6) and Brisbane (Nov 8).
Meanwhile, Australia would look to blast the Indian attack from the very beginning buoyed by their batting depth.
The Aussies have averaged 61 runs after the six overs of powerplay, at a strike rate of 169.97, the highest it's ever been in a single calendar year.
"When you've got the power that we've got behind us, we've got to get a move on," opener Travis Head told cricket.com.au.
"You don't want to be chewing up balls up at the start when you've got (Tim) David, (Marcus) Stoinis, (Josh) Inglis, (Cameron) Green and (Glenn) Maxwell behind you. It's huge power."
