New Delhi: Novak Djokovic has agreed to play in the Shanghai Masters, which would mark his return to action since his US Open semi-final loss to Carlos Alcaraz.
A four-time winner, the Serb will make his 14th appearance at Shanghai and would look look to finish the season with a strong display in the tournament that runs from October 1-12.
"He's back. Our four-time champ, @DjokerNole will return to Shanghai this year," tournament organisers wrote on social media.
The 24-times Grand Slam winner has struggled to find a way past World No. 1 Alcaraz and Sinner, who have shared the last four major titles at two apiece.
The 38-year-old believes he has greater chance of winning title in three-set contests, though he lost in straight sets to Sinner in the final at Shanghai last year.
Former World No. 3 Elina Svitolina has decided to focus on his mental health and withdrawn from the rest of her season.
In a post on Instagram, the Ukrainian said she isn't the "right emotional space" to continue playing tennis this season.
Svitolina took a maternity break and returned to the circuit in 2023, reaching the Australian Open and French Open quarter-finals this year. She was beaten in the third round of Wimbledon and lost in the first round at US Open.
Noe ranked 13th, she helped Ukraine reach the semi-finals of Billie Jean King Cup and went down in three sets to Italy's Jasmine Paolini last week.
"I haven't been feeling like myself lately. I'm not in the right emotional space, and I don't feel ready to play, so I am therefore ending the season here," Svitolina said on Instagram.
"Over the years, I've learned that this sport isn't about money, fame, or rankings - it's about being ready to fight and to give your all. Right now, I'm simply not at the level mentally or emotionally to do that.
"I'm giving myself the space I need to heal and recharge, instead of forcing it and when I step back on the court."
