Champions League: Liverpool suffer shock loss, Arsenal end Bayern Munich's unbeaten start

New Delhi: Liverpool suffered an embarrassing 1-4 defeat at Anfield by PSV Eindhoven as their woes continued in the Champions League while Arsenal ended Bayern Munich's unbeaten start in the season with a massive victory.

Liverpool conceded in just the sixth minute when Virgil van Dijk handled the ball while an appeal for a foul, with Ivan Perisic dispatching the resulting penalty into the corner. Second half goals from Guus Til and Couhaib Driouech, who netted twice, condemned the woeful EPL champions to a ninth defeat in their last 12 matches in all competitions.

This has been the worst run for the side since 1953-54 as they suffered an earlier 0-3 defeat by Nottingham Forest at Anfield last weekend. By virtue of this loss, Liverpool have lost three consecutive game, conceding as many as 10 goals.

Arsenal thump Bayern Munich

Meanwhile, Arsenal were successful in ending Bayern Munich's unbeaten start in the Champions League with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday, maintaining a perfect record in UCL. The Gunners dominated the second half after Bayern's 17-year-old midfielder Lennart Karl cancelled out Jurrien Timber's opener in the opening period.

On the other hand, Holders PSG saw off Tottenham in an eight-goal thriller at the Parc des Princes and Kylian Mbappe scored four times in a Champions League match for the first time as Real Madrid beat Olympiacos 4-3. Runners-up of the last season Inter Milan missed out on a chance to go second in the table as Jose Maria Gimenez's injury-time goal snatched Atletico Madrid a 2-1 win at the Metropolitano.

In some other results, Atalanta climbed to 10th place in the table with an impressive 3-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt, while David Luiz scored as Pafos held Monaco to a exciting 2-2 draw in Cyprus. FC Copenhagen held off a late Kairat Almaty fightback to post their first win with a 3-2 victory in Denmark.
