The ICC Champions Trophy has witnessed many dominant teams over the years, including Australia, India, and South Africa. South Africa won the inaugural edition in 1998, while Australia claimed back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2009. India, on the other hand, has secured three titles (2002 shared with Sri Lanka, 2013, and 2025), making them the most successful team in the tournament's history.
Over the years, the Champions Trophy has witnessed many standout performers. Chris Gayle, the left-handed monstrous batsman from the West Indies, tops the runs chart with 791 runs in 17 innings, followed by several Asian batsmen, Virat Kohli, Mahela Jayawardene, Shikhar Dhawan, and Kumar Sangakkara, who are on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th position respectively on the highest run-getter tally.
Among bowlers, Hasan Ali’s incredible 13 wickets in 2017 helped Pakistan secure their first-ever Champions Trophy title. Jacques Kallis was the standout all-round performer in the inaugural 1998 edition. He was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 8 wickets in 3 games and the second highest run scorer with 164 runs in 3 innings, averaging 82. The tournament has also experienced some young players shine, with Rachin Ravindra winning the Player of the Tournament award in the 2025 edition.
The most recent edition of the Champions Trophy took place in 2025, which witnessed India clinching the title for the third time in history. The Men In Blue emerged victorious against New Zealand in a closely held final in Dubai. While chasing the target of 251 Rohit Sharma’s 76-run knock, Shreyas Iyer's valuable 48 and KL Rahul's 34 not out helped India to chase the target comfortably, winning by 4 wickets and one over remaining.

1998 Winner South Africa: The Proteas beat West Indies by 4 wickets with 18 balls remaining in the inaugural season of the Champions Trophy and won their maiden ICC Title and Champions Trophy.
2000 Winner New Zealand: The Kiwis beat the men in blue in the second edition of the Champions Trophy in a close, high-intensity game by 4 wickets and just 2 balls remaining. Courtesy of Sourav Ganguly's 117, India set a total of 264 in the 1st innings. Coming out to chase the total, Chris Cairns was the main man as he smashed 102 not out and helped New Zealand to win their maiden Champions Trophy title.
2002 Winner India and Sri Lanka: Despite having a reserve day for the big finals , the rain in Colombo was unstoppable for 2 days. India and Sri Lanka were both undefeated in the whole tournament and it ended like that only because the trophy was shared between the two teams because of the persistent rain in Colombo.
2004 Winner West Indies: The Caribbean side pulled off a next to impossible chase against England. While chasing 218 , West Indies were 8 down at 147. A splendid partnership of Courtney Browne and Ian Bradshaw helped them to chase the target with 8 balls to spare and won their 1st ever Champions Trophy.
2006 Winner Australia: The Aussies beat the defending champions in a rain-affected game by 8 wickets and 41 balls remaining. Shane Watson was awarded Man of the Match for his 57* with the bat and 2 wickets with the ball.
2009 Winner Australia: Australia beat New Zealand by 6 wickets, successfully defended their title and became the first team to win their second Champions Trophy final. Once again, Shane Watson was awarded Man of the Match in the finals for his remarkable 105* while chasing 201.
2013 Winner India: MS Dhoni-led young Indian side beat an experienced England team in the finals by 5 runs in a low scoring rain interrupted match.
2017 Winner Pakistan: Pakistan crushed defending champions India by 180 runs in the finals. Fakhar Zaman was awarded Man of the Match for his exceptional 114.
2025 Winner India: Taking revenge for the 2000 CT finals , this time the men in blues emerged victorious against New Zealand, beating them by 4 wickets in the finals and becoming the first team in CT history to win 3 titles.
