New Delhi: India defeated Chile 7-0 in their opening match of the Junior Men's Hockey World Cup at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai on Friday, November 28. Rosan Kujur and Dilraj Singh scored two goals each for the hosts, while Ajeet Yadav, Anmol Ekka and Rohit netted one goal each. With his win, India have now placed at the top of the Pool B with three points and a better goal difference than Switzerland, who defeated Oman 4-0.
The Indians, who are ranked second in the Under-21 category, dominated the game with the majority of possession in the first quarter but failed to create any goal-scoring chances. The Chileans defended strongly and didn't let the Indian forwards make any impact in the opening quarter.
The Men in Blue missed a chance to score just before the end of the first quarter when they earned their first penalty corner, but captain Rohit's flick was defended well by the opponent.

The hosts continued their attacking approach and secured their second penalty corner in the 25th minute, and Dilraj converted from a rebound after the flick was saved by the goalkeeper.
The hosts continued their domination and extended the lead in just four minutes into the second when Dilraj netted his second after receiving a pass from Ankit Pal. Ajeet scored his first goal of the day after finding the net with a high reverse hit.
Chile wasted a goal-scoring opportunity through a penalty corner in the 40th minute. Ekka scored India's sixth goal of the match, converting the team's third penalty corner.
The hosts were awarded a penalty stroke just 49 seconds from the final whistle, and skipper Rohit converted from the spot. Just a few seconds from full time, India got two consecutive penalty corners but failed to make use of them. The hosts will take on Oman in their second Pool B match on Saturday.
