More glory for Indian women's sport as Kabaddi team wins second successive World Cup title

Indian women's sport witnessed another glorious day in 2025 after the Women in Blue successfully defended the Kabaddi World Cup title after beating Chinese Taipei in the final.

New Delhi: The Indian women's team scripted history on Monday by successfully defending the Kabaddi World Cup title with a hard-fought win against Chinese Taipei in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Women in Blue rarely put a foot wrong in the tournament and won a thrilling final 35-28 to claim their second consecutive World Cup title.

The victory in the final was a fitting end to a flawless campaign for the Indian women's team, which remained undefeated in the tournament.

Showing great dominance throughout the tournament, India won all their group fixtures to qualify for the semifinals, where they defeated Iran 33-21 to enter the final.

In the summit clash, India faced a tough test against Chinese Taipei, who also entered the finale after an unbeaten run, which saw them beat hosts Bangladesh 25-18 in the semifinal.

PM Modi hailed the historic achievement with an inspirational post on his official X handle.

Haryana Steelers head coach Manpreet Singh was elated with the women's team's performance.

"The women's team has delivered a performance the whole nation can be proud of. Their belief and teamwork were outstanding. As a former India player, I understand just how hard it is to reach this level. Big congratulations to the players and staff."

Meanwhile, Puneri Paltan head coach and India legend, Ajay Thakur, called the win a reflection of the growth of women's kabaddi.

"It is a very proud moment for India as the women's team retained the World Cup trophy in Dhaka. Their dominant run to the final and then the trophy shows how much women’s kabaddi has progressed in the last few years. It is also a testament to the global appeal of the sport… I hope this momentum continues in the years to come."

Indian women's sport on a roll

As many as 11 countries participated in the Kabaddi World Cup 2025, reflecting the rapid rise of women's kabaddi on the global map.

The Kabaddi World Cup win also marks another glorious day for Indian women's sport in 2025, after landmark wins in the ODI Cricket World Cup, Blind Women's T20 World Cup and a gold-laden display at the Boxing World Cup Finals.
