Jannik Sinner capped off an eventful season on a high by retaining the ATP Finals title with a magnificent victory over rival Carlos Alcaraz in Turin on Sunday. Sinner defeated Alcaraz 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 in straight sets to secure his second consecutive ATP Finals title in front of an enthusiastic home crowd at the Inalpi Arena. With the win, the Italian world no.2 extended his unbeaten run to 31 consecutive matches on indoor hard courts.
Sinner soared to new highs and faced some unexpected turbulence in what was an eventful year for him, however, the Italian ensure he finished the season with a trophy after producing one of his best performances against Alcaraz. The four-time Grand Slam champion, who won the Australian Open and Wimbledon earlier this year, added another prestigious crown to his illustrious tally.
Sinner, who served a three-month suspension earlier this year from WADA in a doping case, made a strong comeback to silence his critics. With the home crowd roaring in his support, a ruthless Sinner edged Alcaraz after two tight sets to successfully defend his ATP Finals title. It was his second victory against Alcaraz in 2025 after he beat the Spaniard in the Wimbledon final.
The two superstars, who have dominated men's tennis in the last couple of years, met each other in an impressive six finals this year. The duo have claimed a combined 14 titles between them this year, including all four Grand Slams. While Sinner won the Australian Open and Wimbledon, Alcaraz clinched the French Open and the US Open titles.
Alcaraz defeated Sinner in an epic final at the Roland Garros before winning in the finals at Rome, Cincinnati and the US Open against the Italian. However, Sinner enjoyed a sweet victory in their final bow of the year in front his home crowd in Turin. After beating his arch-rival, Sinner hoped for more exciting battles with Alcaraz in 2026.
"You are definitely a player I look up to, a lot of motivation. I hope to see you again next year with great battles ahead of us," said the world no.2 after retaining the ATP finals title.
"It was a close match-up. [Alcaraz had] set point in the first set and I'm happy with how I handed the situation. It means the world to me. Playing against Carlos, you have to play your best," he added.
Sinner missed out on the world no.1 rank despite beating Alcaraz to win his second consecutive ATP Finals title. Nonetheless, the Italian, who reached all four major finals this year and added two Grand Slams to his tally, extended his unbeaten record at the ATP Finals, where he has not lost since his defeat to Novak Djokovic in the 2023 final.
Sinner also scripted history by becoming the first player in the world to win two consecutive ATP Finals titles without dropping a set. The 22-year-old will be heading into 2026 with renewed confidence as he looks to continue his domination alongside Alcaraz.
