Team India star Yuzvendra Chahal is the most successful bowler in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the first player to have picked up more than 200 wickets in the history of the tournament. Chahal has been a central figure in the IPL over the years and has been a consistent performer for every franchise that he has played for. He is currently the leading wicket-taker in the IPL.
Chahal made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2013 and quickly established his credentials as one of the most exciting spinners in the league. He has since been part of some of the top IPL teams, including the likes of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals (RR). He will be turning up for the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Chahal became the costliest spinner in the history of IPL auctions after getting picked by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a whopping Rs 18 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. The leg-spinner, who has been a prolific wicket-taker in the league, has witnessed a remarkable rise in stature in the IPL and has enjoyed an eventful journey, thanks to his bowling heroics.
Chahal made his debut for the Mumbai Indians in 2013 after getting picked up for Rs 11 lakh as an uncapped player. He made his debut under Rohit Sharma but got to play only one match in his debut season where he conceded 34 runs off 4 overs while going wicket-less. Chahal moved to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the following season.
It was at RCB where Chahal realised his true potential and announced his arrival on the IPL stage with impressive performances for the franchise. In his first season, Chahal impressed for RCB with 12 wickets from 14 matches before enjoying a breakthrough season in 2015 where he picked up 23 wickets in 15 matches and finished as the 3rd highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
Chahal was rewarded for his IPL performances and fast-tracked into the Indian team in 2016. He continued his impressive run for RCB and became a vital cog in their bowling line-up. Chahal spent seven seasons at RCB before getting released by the franchise ahead of IPL 2022. He played for Rajasthan Royals for three seasons from 2022 to 2024 and will turn up for Punjab Kings this year.
Chahal's current IPL salary is Rs 18 crore per season. Punjab Kings beat the likes of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants and RCB to his signing at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. He became the most expensive spinner in IPL history after getting sold for Rs 18 crore. He was earning Rs 6.50 crore per season at RR and saw his salary rise by Rs 11.50 crore for the upcoming season.

Chahal is arguably one of the best spinners in the IPL at present and will be looking to spearhead the spin attack at the Punjab Kings in the new season. The leg-spinner has so far played 160 matches in his IPL career and has 205 wickets to his name at an average of 22.45 and an economy rate of 7.84, including six 4-wicket hauls and 1 five-wicket haul. He will be looking to extend his wicket tally in IPL 2025 and help Punjab Kings lift their maiden title next season.
