New Delhi: Amazon is transforming Prime Video into an entertainment hub by introducing a 24/7 live news centre that is free. The new tab, which is currently being rolled out to users within the United States, is an instant access to the major news networks without an additional subscription. On the homepage, Prime members will be able to access ABC News Live, CBS News 24/7, CNN Headlines, LiveNOW on Fox, and NBC News NOW. The feature will become available to all users of the US Prime Video at the end of December and will be compatible with smart TVs, Fire TV devices, mobile apps, and desktops.

The launch is a significant change in the streaming policy of Amazon. Live news is being put next to movies, series and sports, making Prime Video a step in the right direction of becoming a full media house. The strategy of Amazon is to combine entertainment and daily information with interactive elements, and Prime Video becomes a key screen for every user who needs to get something to watch and listen to and be aware of changes. The rollout in the US will be followed by expansion to other regions.

Amazon’s push into live news

Amazon may expand the news hub to over 200 services by the end of the year. It will consist of Bloomberg TV+, which is business-focused; Fox Weather, which is forecast-focused; NBC Sports Now, which is a sports news channel; and Telemundo Al Día, which is a Spanish news channel. This wide growth would allow Amazon to compete with cable companies and other services such as YouTube TV, which depend on live news to keep customers.

A new direction for Prime Video

There is also a possibility of the company integrating its signature features. Such tools as X-Ray and ‘Shop the Show’ might be developed into news interactions or provide additional information, corresponding data, or real-time connections. The transition is in line with the changing viewer patterns, with the movement of more viewers abandoning cable and embracing on-demand access to information.

As the trends in cable viewership reduce, and competition increases, Amazon is making Prime Video a comprehensive digital entrance. Whereas Netflix remains concentrated on the entertainment industry and Disney+ is utilising franchises, Amazon is integrating information, shopping, and streaming into a single platform. To the users, the new tab offers them credible round-the-clock news without any extra charge. In the case of Amazon, it is a strategic move towards more integration within its ecosystem.
