New Delhi: WhatsApp is rolling out its renewed Calls tab on iOS, and it also has a call hub, which consolidates all activities regarding voice and video calling. The most recent release, version 25.35.74, focuses on features that have existed and are now accessed by a wider audience. Under this rollout, WhatsApp is putting emphasis on access, faster navigation and better communication tools for the users who are majorly dependent on calling features.

The integrated hub is a collection of all call options – calling list, keypad, scheduling and favourites – into a single clean interface. This overcomes unnecessary processes and simplifies making or controlling promptly any calls. The update will minimise friction, improve the visibility of the essential actions, and provide the users with a more efficient calling experience.

Unified call hub improves speed and accessibility

The new call hub puts the call button on the top and opens a complete list of WhatsApp-registered contacts. The users are able to initiate individual or group calls of up to 31 people with suggested and recent contacts in the foreground. This design ensures that one does not have to change screens and they access the contacts more quickly. Favourites are found at the top of the Calls tab too, providing a speed-dial-like experience with people or things contacted on a regular basis.

An in-built schedule button enables users to make call plans and send event invitations in chats. The notifications are sent to the participants, and thus missed meetings are avoided. The same hub also allows the user to reschedule or cancel a call. The keypad button has direct access to the dialler and makes it possible to call any WhatsApp-linked number, even without saving its number. Validated business accounts have a check mark to add credibility and transparency.

New voice and video message options for missed calls

WhatsApp currently enables users to leave a voice message when a call is not answered. When one misses a call, a message to send a voice recording is offered, and one can send the message without manually opening the chat. Such messages appear with missed call messages, which enhance communication at times that an individual is unavailable.

Moreover, WhatsApp is introducing the same for missed video calls. The short video notes can be recorded and sent by the user through the call interface. The video is sent together with the missed call notification to the recipients, which is more personal and provides an alternative to a text. Although this is not mentioned in the official changelog, it is already being observed by a good number of users on the latest iOS build.

The integrated call centre and voice and video messaging are now available to a larger number of users who had installed WhatsApp via the App Store. The business is still increasing the reach and is keeping track of the performance and feedback. WhatsApp wants to provide the refined and reliable calling experience first and only then roll out the update to all the accounts across the world.
