Tokyo: Japan once again was rocked by an earthquake at he magnitude of 6.5, marking the third successive day that the country been hit by the quake. No Tsunami threat has has been issued after the latest earthquake in the south-east Asian country,
On Wednesday, the earthquake was mainly experienced in Hokkaido and eastern Aomori. The depth of the earthquake is believed to be 30 kilometres. While on Monday, the magnitude of 7.6 struck Japan, on Tuesday, the earthquake’s magnitude was 6.7 in Honcho town.
While over 50 people were injured in Monday’s terrible earthquake, the figures continue to rise. The authorities have sounded caution that an even bigger earthquake may strike the country in the coming days, news agency AFP reported.
Japan’s meteorological department issued a "megaquake advisory" on Tuesday after the devastation a day earlier. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), there is a major chance of a powerful, over eight-plus magnitude quake in next few days, The Associated Press reported.
"Due to the occurrence of this earthquake, it is believed that the relative likelihood of a new large-scale earthquake has increased compared to normal times," the report said.
The authorities in Japan have advised residents living in coastal areas to remain on alert round the clock and keep emergency kits ready. It also asked people to evacuate their homes quickly if the need arises. "If a large-scale earthquake occurs in the future, there is a possibility of a massive tsunami reaching the area or experiencing strong shaking," it added.
The authorities said that the Monday's earthquake has led to an increase in seismic risks along the Hokkaido-Sanriku coast, It is here that the Pacific Plate dives below the country, forming the Japan Trench and Chishima Trench, which are responsible for major earthquakes in Japan’s history.
