India Considers Trumps Gaza Peace Board Amid US Trade Tensions
India has received an invitation from US President Donald Trump to join his proposed "Board of Peace" initiative, aimed at resolving global conflicts, starting with Gaza. This outreach occurs at a sensitive juncture in India-US relations, marked by unresolved trade talks and US tariffs of up to 50% on Indian exports.
The "Board of Peace," unveiled on 15 January as part of Trump's 20-point plan for Gaza, is envisioned as a transitional governing authority to end hostilities, stabilise the region, and reconstruct governance systems.
President Trump described it as a bold new push to turn dreams of peace into reality, bringing together influential global leaders. India's Ministry of External Affairs has not yet issued an official response, and its decision is being closely watched for geopolitical and trade implications. Around 60 countries have reportedly been invited, with Pakistan indicating openness to engagement.
