Israel Approves 4G Mobile Services for West Bank Palestinians

Israel has given its approval for the rollout of 4G mobile services for Palestinians residing in the West Bank, marking a significant advancement in regional telecommunications. This long-awaited upgrade comes after years of delays, partly attributed to the conflict in Gaza.

The decision stems from management agreements signed by Palestinian mobile operators Jawwal and Ooredoo, in collaboration with Swedish technology firm Ericsson. These agreements received clearance from Israeli authorities, paving the way for the implementation of fourth-generation cell phone services in the West Bank.

The Israeli Communications Ministry anticipates that the full transition from 3G to 4G will take approximately four to six months before services become fully operational. However, this upgrade will not extend to the Gaza Strip, where mobile networks will continue to operate on the older, slower 2G service. This development is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and internet speeds for users in the West Bank.
