Poland's airspace was breached by at least 19 suspected Russian drones, leading to their destruction by Polish forces. This unprecedented event, the first time a NATO member has engaged in direct fire during the ongoing Ukraine conflict, has sparked widespread international concern.

One drone struck a residential building in the village of Wyryki-Wola, while others created craters in southeastern Poland's fields. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the situation as the closest the world has come to open conflict since World War II, triggering Article 4 consultations within NATO.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported a massive overnight Russian assault involving over 400 drones and 40 missiles. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell condemned the actions and reiterated the commitment to defending NATO territory. The incident has heightened fears of the Ukraine conflict expanding beyond its borders.
