Nimisha Priya Gets Major Relief As Yemen Court Overturns Death Sentence
Indian nurse Nimisha Priya has received a significant reprieve after a Yemeni court overturned her death sentence. Priya, convicted in 2020 for the murder of Yemeni national Talal Abdo Mahdi, was scheduled for execution on July 16th, 2025.
However, the execution was temporarily halted following an appeal by India's Grand Mufti Kanthapuram A. P. Aboobacker Musaliyar. The Grand Mufti's intervention, prompted by India's limited diplomatic engagement with Yemen, proved crucial in the case.
Priya's family, including her daughter Michelle and husband Thomas, along with evangelist K.A. Paul, actively campaigned for her release in Yemen. The Houthi Supreme Judicial Councils decision marks a considerable victory for Priya and her supporters.
