Second Hindu Lynching in Bangladesh Raises Alarms Over Mob Rule and Minority Safety
Bangladesh is facing renewed alarm following the lynching of Amrit Mondal, alias Samrat, in Rajbaris Pangshwa Upazila. This incident marks the second such killing of a Hindu man in recent days, amplifying fears regarding mob justice and the safety of minorities in the country.
Mondal was reportedly beaten to death by a mob after allegations of extortion and criminal activity. According to police and local sources, Samrat, allegedly an extortion racket leader, was confronted by residents after demanding money and assaulting a family member. He died at the scene, while an accomplice was apprehended with illegal weapons.
Bangladesh police have confirmed Samrats criminal history, noting multiple pending cases, including murder charges. His body has been sent for autopsy, and investigations are underway.
However, questions persist regarding failures in preventive policing, given Samrats status as a listed criminal. This incident highlights a growing crisis where vigilante actions challenge the rule of law, contributing to a climate of fear, especially among the Hindu minority.
