The death of Jane Lee, a 40-year-old Singaporean businesswoman and mother of two, has sparked a dual investigation into alleged workplace insurance fraud and an unnatural death. Lee, owner of a Sumo Salad restaurant in Holland Village, Singapore, died on July 19th, just one day after publicly accusing her employee, Saran Kiranjeet Kaur, an Indian national, of faking a workplace injury to claim compensation.

Lee's Facebook post detailed the alleged incident, claiming Kaur staged a fall on an escalator while disposing of rubbish. Lee stated she possessed CCTV evidence showing Kaur walking normally before dramatically exhibiting injury symptoms when observed by others, particularly medical professionals.

She further alleged this was part of a wider scam targeting small businesses, with migrant workers falsely claiming injuries to receive government compensation. Businesses with insurance were targeted for payouts, while those without faced blackmail and under-the-table demands.

The Singaporean Ministry of Manpower is now investigating Lees allegations of widespread insurance fraud within workplace injury compensation schemes. Simultaneously, police are investigating Lees death as unnatural, prompting questions regarding the circumstances surrounding her passing.

The circumstances have led to widespread speculation and concern, with the investigation likely to be a lengthy and complex process involving the collection and analysis of evidence, interviews with witnesses and colleagues, and potential forensic investigation.
