Kyiv: Ukraine is very close to deal with Russia to end the ongoing war, President Volodymyr ZelenskyY has said in his message to the countrymen in his New Year address. He, however, added that the most difficult issues have not yet been resolved.

He added that while both sides agreed on 19 percent of issues, the issues on 10 percent have not yet been achieved, and talks are still on. The US is moderating peace talks between two countries, which continue to remain in war, which started in 2022.

“The peace agreement is 90 per cent ready. Ten per cent remains. And that is far more than just numbers," Zelenskyy said in his message on his Telegram handle. Pointing out on what at stake he added, “Those are the 10 per cent that will determine the fate of peace, the fate of Ukraine and Europe.”

The Ukrainian President further warned that even as his country was in favour of peace, but that has to be built on strong security guarantees. He noted that the peace  should not come through concessions, which would further weaken Ukraine.

Zeleneskyy met Trump recently

His statement came days after meeting US President Donald Trump over peace with Russia. However, hours later Russia accused Ukraine of attacking President Vladimir Putin’s residence, which was rejected by Zelenskyy as ‘fabricated’.

Ukraine rejects Russia’s claim

“Russia is at it again, using dangerous statements to undermine all achievements of our shared diplomatic efforts with President Trump's team. We keep working together to bring peace closer.

This alleged "residence strike" story is a complete fabrication intended to justify additional attacks against Ukraine, including Kyiv, as well as Russia’s own refusal to take necessary steps to end the war. Typical Russian lies. Furthermore, the Russians have already targeted Kyiv in the past, including the Cabinet of Ministers building,” he said on X.
