What Imran Khan told sister Uzma during 20 minute meeting at Adila Jail in Rawalpindi
Following massive protests and increasing pressure, the Sharif govt allowed Imran Khan's sister to meet him. The govt allowed Uzma Khanum to meet her brother, Imran Khan, for 20 minutes at the Adiala jail. After meeting Imran Khan, Uzma Khanum said that the former Pakistan PM is alive.
Uzma added that Imran Khan is being "mentally tortured" at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail. During the 20-minute meeting, Uzma said that Imran blamed Asim Munir for his condition. Asim Munir is now the most powerful figure in Pakistan after he seized control of military & rewrote the Constitution. General Asim Munir also enjoys lifetime immunity.
Talking to the media after meeting Imran Khan, Uzma said that he is in good health. Uzma added that Imran Khan is facing isolation and psychological strain. Uzam was given 20 minutes of supervised visit after weeks of protests demanding family access to Khan.
Uzma Khanum, one of Khan's three sisters, was the only family member permitted to meet him in Adiala Jail. Uzma told reporters her brother "looked healthy" but had been confined indoors for long periods.
Unverified claims about Imran Khan’s health set off political tremors across Pakistan. The reports around Imran Khan's health first started as whispers on social media, but soon morphed into a crisis. Several PTI supporters staged massive protests over rumours about the ex-PM's health.
Protests were carried out after routine visits were blocked for weeks despite a court order. Imran Khan's supporters also blocked roads in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, after which the authorities imposed Sec 144.
Imran Khan was arrested on 5 Aug 2023 by Lahore Police and was later sentenced to three years in jail. Imran Khan was accused of misusing his role as the prime minister of Pakistan. Apart from corruption charges, Khan was also accused of buying and selling state gifts he received as Pak PM.
Khan reportedly sold gifts worth Rs 140 million that he received during international visits. Some of the objects that Khan allegedly sold included watches, perfumes, jewellery, antiques and dinner sets. Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, faces seven years in prison for violating Section 496 of Pakistan Penal Code by marrying during her Iddat period.
