New Delhi: In an overly cinematic incident, a man from New Delhi outsmarted a scammer pretending to be his senior, with the help of ChatGPT, to expose the fraud. Sharing a fiery post on Reddit, the man explained the entire episode and how he eventually made the scammer beg for forgiveness.

According to the post, the scammer contacted him on Facebook, claiming to be a senior from college who was now an IAS officer. The fraudster said that a “CRPF officer friend” was being transferred and was selling expensive furniture and appliances at heavily discounted prices.

How did the suspicion saved the victim from being scammed?

The post mentioned that the scammer repeatedly urged him to send money urgently, which the man said “felt immediately wrong.” He added that the scammer became increasingly pushy the moment payment was brought up.

Growing suspicious, the man reached out to the real friend on WhatsApp and confirmed that the entire story was fake. Once he understood the scammer’s intent, he decided to hatch a foolproof plan to catch him red-handed.

How did ChatGPT became the rescuer?

According to the man, he used ChatGPT to create a fake payment portal. He instructed the AI to design a false webpage that looked genuine but was actually built to capture the scammer’s geolocation and front-camera image. He wrote that the model generated the code within minutes. He then hosted the tracker page and sent the scammer the link, claiming that uploading the QR code there would “expedite the payment process.”

As planned, the scammer fell for the trap and clicked the link. Within seconds, the fake portal fetched his exact location, IP address, and a front-camera image—something the man described as “shockingly clear.” He then sent the scammer his own image and location details.

The situation took an unexpectedly positive turn when the scammer, using multiple numbers, began begging for forgiveness. The Delhi resident also shared screenshots showing the scammer’s panic. He noted that while the scammer might attempt to con someone else in the future, the experience of “stealing from a thief” was unforgettable.
