Delhi AQI at 392, city records 'very poor' air on Sunday morning

The AQI in Delhi was recorded at 392 on Sunday morning. This makes the air 'very poor' . This was slightly better than the 400+ AQI recorded on Saturday in the national capital. Similar air quality conditions prevailed in the NCR, with Ghaziabad recording an AQI of 387, Noida of 392 and Greater Noida of 365. Gurugram was slightly better with AQI of 254.

New Delhi: The Air Quality Index in Delhi was recorded as being 'very poor' on Sunday morning. The city saw an AQI of 392. Though it was better than the air quality recorded on Saturday night, the city continued to reel under smog.

Anything above 300 is considered 'hazardous' and the city has already breached that mark. In fact the AQI on Saturday night itself was above 400.

AQI in different areas of Delhi

The different monitoring stations in Delhi recorded different AQIs on Sunday, said the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) . While the Lodi Road station recorded an AQI of 377, the one at Mandir Marg gave an AQI of 391. The NSIT, Dwarka had a comparatively better reading as it recorded an AQI of 202. The Bawana monitoring station recorded the highest AQI at 436.

The AQI in Mundka again was in the 'Hazardous' zone, reaching 420. Dilshad Garden area had a slightly better AQI, compared to other areas in the city. This region recorded an AQI of 271. Most other weather monitoring stations across the city had an AQI of 400 plus.

A dense blanket of smog enveloped the city as temperatures plummeted. The city recorded a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius, which was way below the normal level and was an indication for the onset of winters.

Meanwhile in the National Capital Region (NCR), Noida recorded and AQI of 392, which was pretty close to the 'severe' category, while in Greater Noida, the AQI was slightly better at 365. Ghaziabad also recorded an AQI of 387, making AQI 'very poor'. Gurugram was a little better with AQI at 254, but even then this was in the 'poor' category.

According to the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the quality of air in the city is expected to remain in the 'very poor' category for several days. Since Diwali, the national capital has seen air quality oscillate between 'poor' to 'very poor' zones, occasionally dipping to the 'severe' category also.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) classification, an AQI of 0-50 is considered “good,” 51-100 “satisfactory,” 101-200 “moderate,” 201-300 “poor,” 301-400 “very poor,” and 401-500 “severe”.
