New Delhi: A 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly feeding chicken momos to a cow in Gurgaon's Sector 56 Huda market, police said on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Ritik Chandna, recorded a video of his act and shared on social media, drawing immense backlash from various quarters.

According to police, Chandna, who has several social media channels, shared the video online to hurt religious sentiments. The accused told police that he was paid to record the act.

Chandan fed chicken momos to cow

In the controversial clip, uploaded several days ago, Chandna is seen buying chicken momos from a shop in the Sector 56 market and eating them. He later offers the remaining momos to a cow standing near him, the viral clip shows.

As the video went viral, a group of self-styled cow vigilantes approached the police and lodged a complaint against him. Based on the complaint, police filed an FIR under sections 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 325 (mischief by killing or maiming an animal) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, HT reported.

Accused belongs to decent family

Police said that Chandna who lives in New Colony, belongs to a decent family. His father has a footwear shop while his mother is a doctor at a private hospital in Gurgaon. Chandna, a graduate from Delhi University, has been active on YouTube and other social media platforms.  The accused claimed that he was brainwashed and was asked by many social media users to feed chicken momos to the cow. "I was brainwashed into doing the act. Many people on social media asked me to feed chicken momos to cow. I will not repeat this act in the future. I committed a big mistake. I'm a Hindu. I will not do such acts ever," he said in another video.

Chandna paid Rs 3000 to upload video

Chandna was advised to take the video down by many people in the comment section, as it hurt their religious sentiments. His neighbours also asked him to delete the clip but he refused to do so. Chanda told the police that he was paid Rs 3,000 by person, who is yet to be identified, to create the video and upload it onlien.

Following the FIR and his confession, police arrested the accused. He, however, was later granted bail.
