New Delhi: Anticipating a huge rush on New Year's eve, the Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory for commuters to avoid congestion. According o the advisory, traffic curbs have been put in place in several key locations, including the heart of the city, Connaught Place.
Delhi Police has restricted the movement of private and public vehicles in CP from 7 pm on December 31 as a large number of people are expected to throng the area to celebrate New Year. Besides, the exit gates of Rajiv Chowk metro station, located in Connaught Place, will be closed after 9 pm as part of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) crowd management measures.
Apart from CP, traffic restrictions and diversions have also been put in place in several other localities, including Saket and Paharganj.
In view of the anticipated rush, Delhi Traffic Police has made special traffic arrangements to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow. The Delhi Police asked the police to avoid affected roads, wherever possible and plan journeys well in advance. The police also asked travellers to ISBTs, Railway Stations and Airports to keep sufficient buffer time.
Restriction timings
From 7 pm onwards on December 31 till the conclusion of New Year Eve celebrations. This would be applicable to all private and public transport vehicles, unless otherwise permitted.

In the Saket area of South Delhi, the police announced affected roads, diversion points and restrictions. Press Enclave Road and the internal roads of Saket and Pushp Vihar will be affected.
Diversion points include Sheikh Sarai red light, Asian Market red light and PTS Malviya Nagar red light. Entry of heavy vehicles and DTC will be restricted on both carriageways of Press Enclave Road and Pushp Vihar from the MB road.
Traffic advisory for Saket
Traffic diversions and regulatory measures have been put in place in Saket area, South Delhi, in view of New Year celebrations on December 31 and January 1. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, follow the prescribed diversions and adhere to directions of traffic personnel deployed on duty.
As per the advisory, Press Enclave Road and the internal roads of Saket and Pushp Vihar will be affected.
Diversion points include Sheikh Sarai red light, Asian Market red light and PTS Malviya Nagar red light. Entry of heavy vehicles and DTC will be restricted on both carriageways of Press Enclave Road and Pushp Vihar from the MB road, the advisory stated.
Expecting a huge rush of devotees at Shri Mata Jhandewalan Mandir, the Delhi Police's advisory said that roads around the Rani Jhansi Road will be affected.
The advisory stated that on the occasion of New Year celebrations on December 31 and January 1, a large number of devotees are expected to visit Jhandewalan Mandir to seek blessings. Due to the anticipated heavy footfall, traffic movement on Rani Jhansi Road and adjoining areas is likely to be affected, leading to congestion and slow vehicular movement.
"In view of New Year celebrations at Shri Mata Jhandewalan Mandir in Paharganj area, commuters are advised to avoid Rani Jhansi Road during peak hours, use alternate routes and follow traffic signage and directions of traffic personnel to ensure smooth and safe movement," the advisory read.
