New Delhi: As football icon Lionel Messi is set to visit the national capital, the city has made grand arrangements to ensure smooth operations throughout the day. The high-profile event will take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Feroz Shah Kotla as part of the “Lionel Messi G.O.A.T India Tour – Delhi Leg.”
The event is scheduled to run from 1 PM to 4 PM. During this period, traffic movement is expected to be slow around the stadium, with diversions in place on several adjoining roads.
According to a travel advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police, the entry of heavy vehicles has been restricted from Daryaganj to Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and from Guru Nanak Chowk towards Asaf Ali Road. In a post shared on X, the traffic police advised residents to avoid JLN Marg, Asaf Ali Road, and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg due to heavy movement expected for the Argentine footballer’s visit.
The advisory also includes a detailed entry and exit blueprint. Entry to the stadium will be permitted through Gates 1 to 8 from Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg (south side), Gates 10 to 15 from JLN Marg near the Ambedkar Stadium Bus Terminal, and Gates 16 to 18 from Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg near the petrol pump.
Considering the large turnout expected for the event, free parking will be available at Mata Sundari Road, Rajghat Power House Road, and Velodrome Road. Only vehicles with valid parking labels will be allowed to park near the stadium, and the label must be clearly visible on the vehicle. Entry to the designated parking area will be via Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and will be accessible from the Vikram Nagar cut near Shaheedi Park.
However, parking will be strictly prohibited on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, JLN Marg, and Ring Road from Rajghat to the IP Flyover. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed, and strict action will be taken. Pick-up and drop-off facilities for app-based taxis have been designated at MA Medical College (Gate No. 2) and Rajghat Chowk.
The Delhi Traffic Police has appealed to the public to use alternative routes while travelling and to stay updated on traffic conditions through official channels.
