Hyderabad City Police will begin special enforcement drives against drunk driving from Wednesday, December 24 till new Years Day and strict action will be taken against those who cross limits in the name of NY celebrations, Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said.

Beginning Wednesday, breath analyser tests will be conducted every day for a week at about 100 locations.

Speaking to the media, Sajjanar said, “If drugs are found at a New Year's event, action will be taken against the pub owner. All pubs, bars, and shops must close by 1 AM.”

Those caught in drunken driving checks will face vehicle seizure along with a fine of Rs.10,000 and six months' imprisonment, he warned.

He suggested that those attending parties should arrange a 'designated driver' in advance or opt for cabs. He stated that strict action will be taken against youth engaging in racing, wheeling, or rash driving on roads.

Special measures have been taken for women's safety during the celebrations. He said that 15 she-teams will be on vigil in plain clothes at crowded areas, party venues, and junctions, and anyone behaving indecently toward women will be arrested immediately.

Security measures for Christmas, New Years eve:

On Tuesday, at the Telangana Integrated Command Control Centre (TGICCC) in Banjara Hills, City CP Sajjanar held a video conference with field-level officers on the security arrangements for Christmas and New Year celebrations. He provided key instructions on security measures.

He advised deploying personnel in hotspot areas and regions where crimes have occurred in the past, and maintaining constant surveillance on the movements of habitual offenders.
