Mumbai: A 33-year-old college professor was stabbed to death in a moving train following a minor argument with another passenger in Mumbai. The accused, who has no previous criminal record, has been arrested in the case.
While the victim has been identified as Alok Kumar Singh, the accused has been identified as Omkar Shinde. Singh used to work at a private college as a professor. The incident took place when the train was entering Malad station in the city, which was the destination of the victim.
As the train came to a halt at Malad station, the accused managed to flee from the spot. The injured victim was rushed to a nearby government hospital by by Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel for treatment. However, he later succumbed to injuries.
According to a ‘India Today’ report, the victim was attacked after a verbal altercation in the train. The accused had allegedly threatened Singh with severe consequences. The victim hailed from Uttar Pradesh. He is survived by his wife.
The couple got married just two years ago. After the murder, the case has been filed under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and has been filed under GRP. Importantly, there have been reports of arguments inside trains in Mumbai earlier too, the latest killing seems to be an increase in that pattern.
Last year in July, a video had surfaced from a station in Mumbai in which two women can be seen fighting with each other. As per reports, one of the women hit the other with her elbow to board the train first, leading to the fight. In another incident same month, two women entered into verbal conflict inside a train after one of them asked the other to speak in Marathi.
